Holiday Treats for Troops

After reading an article in the October issue of the Ladies Home Journal about providing “Treats for Troops”, Deckie Knipstein began wondering what she might be able to do to help the men and women from our community (or with ties to our community via relatives) who are serving in the military in Iraq or Afghanistan. She got together with her daughter Tana Renfroe, and sister-in-law Mary Sue Knipstein and they decided to put together boxes of treats and necessities to send to those troops in time for Christmas.

Last Monday morning, the ladies began filling the boxes for the 30+ troops from our area. These ladies have been collecting items for the boxes, including Christmas stockings, hand-made helmet liners that area ladies have been making, along with other items purchased or donated by the Lexington American Legion Auxiliary, the American Legion and by individuals in the community.
