Giddings Tops Columbus
The Giddings Buffs ended the 2009 regular season with a whopping win over Columbus 48- 18. The Buffs scored offensively, defensively, and on special teams. Giddings scored conventionally – on offense the first two times they had the ball.
Quarterback Connor Wehr scored on a six-yard run. Wehr then hit Marcellus Mack on a crossing route for a 22-yard scoring pass.
Columbus mounted a drive that stalled out on the Giddings 12- yard line. Dion Hutchinson blocked the field goal attempt with his elbow. The ball bounced to Mack, who scooted 83-yards for a score.
Columbus’ next possession was a disaster also. An errant option pitch landed on the ground. Cameron Williams scooped up the ball and ran it 29-yards for another Buff TD.
Eric Rimes scored in the third quarter for the first offense. With the second offense on the field, Hutchinson broke up the middle, almost unnoticed by the Cardinal defense for 35-yards for yet another score.
After a Columbus score against the Buff reserves an ill-advised kick off went to Corey Brite. Brite circled right, broke up the middle of the field for the final Giddings score. Toby Bishop toed four of six PAT kicks and Eric Escalante ran in another.
