Gilbert Ernest Markert

October21,1928- November7,2009

Mr. Markert passed away Saturday morning at the Spring Branch Medical Center in Houston.

Gilbert Ernest Markert was born on October 21, 1928 in Lee County, Texas to Chas Andrew & Emily (Walther) Markert. He was united in marriage to Ruby Jatzlau on October 30, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Texas. He was a retired sheetrocker who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Markert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Willie, Collie and Ervin and two sisters, Ruth Falke and Irene Strokes.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Markert of Houston; daughter, Shelia & Jeffrey Koopman of Houston; son, Harvey Markert of Houston; four grandchildren, Sue & Chris Samoff of Katy, Jessica & Ross Miller of Brenham and Chelsea Koopman of Houston & Cody Koopman of Houston; three great grandchildren, Ashley, Cameron & Kerissa Samoff of Katy; one great, great grandchild, Kloie Samoff of Katy; two brothers, Roland & Ruth Markert of Houston and Freddie & Lillian Markert of Dime Box; four sisters, Edna Green of California, Elyne Rackel of Lincoln, Betty Theiss of Houston and Frances Wernecke of New Ulm as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Gilbert Markert, 81 of Houston, Texas are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Giddings City Cemetery in Giddings with Rev. Richard Schuller officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from noon to 1:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings and 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Giddings City Cemetery.
