Benjamin Franklin Gunter Sr.
Benjamin Franklin Gunter was born on November 11, 1922 in Lexington, Texas to Benjamin H. & Elizabeth (Mathis) Gunter. He was united in marriage to Betty Beaman on October 18, 1946 in Bryan, Texas. He was a retired Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force serving from January 22, 1942 until May 1, 1964. He participated in 68 bombing missions during his career. After his retirement, he and his family owned and operated the B-Z-B which later became Gunter’s Restaurant in Giddings for several years. Mr. Gunter enjoyed growing his pecan trees, putting together puzzles and was a great joke teller.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ella Phears.
Mr. Gunter is survived by his wife, Betty Beaman Gunter of Ledbetter; 5 daughters, Patsy & Cecil Buscha of Lincoln, Johnnie & Dewayne Reynolds of Caldwell, Barbara & Gene Coker of Livingston, Terry & Melvin Iselt of Ledbetter and Susie & Gary Wrinkle of Giddings; 4 sons, Benjamin & Gloria Gunter Jr. of Ledbetter, Bill Gunter of Ledbetter, Joe Gunter of Ledbetter and Travis & Lynn Gunter of Giddings; 21 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great, great granddaughter; sister, Elizabeth Franz of Bartlett; 2 sisters-in-law, Velma Leverett of Cypress and Shirley & James Yantis of Hearne as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with full military honors for Benjamin Gunter Sr., 86 of Ledbetter, Texas, were held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Dime Box, Texas with Rev. Reuel Cooper officiating.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Mark Mitschke, Chris Medack, Paul Iselt, Jon Gunter, Travis Lee Gunter, Joey Gunter, Dylan Malinak and Jon Franz.
