Lee County Teams Head to First Round of Playoffs
Both the Lexington Eagles and the Giddings Buffalos will be heading into the first round of playoffs this Friday night. Lexington will face Rice Consolidated for the second time this season. Their game will be in Navasota. The first time these two teams met this year, the Eagles came out on the short end of the stick, losing a close 26-22 game. The plan this time around is to be on top.
Coach Jason Holcomb said, “We’re very excited to be in the playoffs again. Our kids have worked extremely hard and I’d like to see our community come out in great numbers to support them. I think Rice Consolidated may think they have more fans than we and I’d like to prove them wrong. I couldn’t be more proud of our boys’ work ethic and focus this year and we’re all hoping for a long run in the playoffs.”
The Lexington High School will host a bon fire and communitywide pep rally Thursday night, at 6:30 at the City Park.
Giddings will open their 2009 playoff run with a game against the Brookshire Royal Falcons. Their game will be at Nelson Field in Austin. The Buffalos are 9-1 for the season 4-1 in district and the Falcons are 5-5 for the season, 4-1 in district.
Coach Derek Fitzhenry said, “We have tremendous fan support and the kids deserve the playoff experience. We want to encourage everyone to come out to watch our kids.”
Advance tickets for the Lexington game can be bought for $6 and $3 (student ticket price). At the gate, all tickets will be $6. For the Giddings game, tickets can be purchased in advance for $7/Adult and $3/Children. At the game, all tickets will be $8.
Both games get under way at 7:30 p.m.
