Buffs Secure Playoffs
The Giddings Buffalos trampled Smithville 55-14 Friday night to secure a playoff bid from District 25-AAA. The Buffs scored from in close and long range in amassing a 42-0 halftime lead. Marcellus Mack scored on the first bomb from 62-yards out. Deladrick Britton ran it in from seven-yards out for the second score. Eric Rimes ripped off an 11-yard scoring trip to open the second quarter scoring. Then Mack had a trifecta in the remainder of the second quarter. Mack scored on a 59-yard pass reception, an 11- yard run, and a 79-yard pass reception to give Giddings their commanding halftime lead. Johnny Palomo and Jackie Wade added TD runs in the second half.
Mack finished the night with six catches for 237 yards. Quarterback Connor Wehr hit on all eight of his passes for 270 yards.
Giddings is now 8-1 for the season and 3-1 in district action. The Buffs, Sealy, and LaGrange will be the playoff representatives for 25-AA. Sealy will be the Division I school. Giddings will be the Division II first place team and LaGrange the second place team if everything holds true to form. Giddings would play Brookshire Royal and LaGrange would tackle Sweeny. Sealy would match up with Needville.
