Avery Ray "Hooter" Sherrill

February 3, 1924 - October 28, 2009

Avery Ray "Hooter" Sherrill was born February 4, 1924 in Blue, Texas to Avery Aaron and Nellie Ann (Turner) Sherrill. He was one of seven children. He lived all of his life in Blue. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II.

On November 21, 1955, he and Johnnie Lay were married in Cameron. Nine children were born to this union.

Hooter was a Millwright at ALCOA in Rockdale from 1957 to 1979 when he retired. Member of Blue United Methodist Church and member of Post Oak Island Masonic Lodge 181 AF&AM in Beaukiss.

Hooter passed away Wednesday morning, October 28, 2009 in a Austin Hospital reaching the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie on September 20, 2008. A son, Dalton Ray Sherrill. Grandsons, Adam Ryan Sherrill and Seth Michael Sherrill Hannigan. Parents. Brothers, Garland, Ross and B.B. Sherrill. Sisters, Ethel Baker, Glendine Coolage, Ermanell Wright.

Surviving are; Four sons; Robert and Brenda Sherrill of Jewett, Billy and Kathie Sherrill of Beaukiss, Randy Sherrill of Lexington, David and Bonnie Sherrill of Blue. Four daughters, Dorid & Buford Phillips of San Antonio, Jo Nell Sparrow and Garry Conner of Buda, Marilyn Hannigan & Michael of Lexington, Judy Blue and Jonesy Jones of Blue. Daughter in-law, Debbie Sherrill of Bellville. 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren.

Visitation; 6PM to 8PM Friday, October 30, 2009 in the Lexington Phillips & Luckey Chapel.

Services, 10:00 AM Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Blue United Methodist Church, burial in the Burns Cemetery in Blue. Rev. Gary McManus and Rev. Linda O'Neil to officiate.
