Edward Harold Putnam
Funeral services for Edward H. Putnam, 96 of Northrup, Texas were held Friday, October 30, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Putnam passed away peacefully Monday evening at St. Mark's Medical Center in LaGrange.
Edward Harold Putnam was born on July 2, 1913 in Hamilton, Texas to Walter H. & Beatrice (Turner) Putnam. He served in the U.S. Army from 1932 before receiving his Honorable Discharge with the rank of Private in 1936. While in the Army, Mr. Putnam boxed and served in the Battery C, 16th Field Artillery Division. He was united in marriage to Bernice Nevelee Stiewert on March 30, 1947 in Brownwood, Texas. Mr. Putnam was a retired bus driver with the Rapid Transit Line of the Houston Metro Bus Company. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and taking care of his orchard. He invented many things, was a true "Jack of All Trades", an excellent entrepreneur and always placed God and family first.
Mr. Putnam was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice; two brothers, Iotis Putnam and Junior Putnam and a sister, Katherine Ingram.
He is survived by his children, Robert & Brenda Putnam of Magnolia, Douglas & Barbara Putnam of Dayton, Brenda & Ross McClintock of Pearland, Cynthia & Jim Fleming of Austin, John Putnam of Northrup and Fern Putnam Reed of San Saba; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
