Giddings Tops LaGrange
Giddings spotted LaGrange a 26-7 lead before roaring back for a 36-32 win over the previously unbeaten Leopards. The victory puts the 25-AAA district race into a real mess. Giddings propelled themselves into a position to make the state playoffs with their comeback win.
With LaGrange holding a 26-7 lead in the third quarter, Connor Wehr scored on a keeper. The PAT kick closed the score to 26-14. Another Wehr score and kick narrowed the score to 26-21 as the third quarter ended. The first score of the fourth quarter, a 17-yard run by Marcellus Mack put Giddings into a 27-26 lead. Wehr's PAT run moved the score to 29-26. LaGrange did not lie down after the comeback. A pass to Brandon Wilkerson put LG back into the lead 32-29. Giddings went to their tried and true running game to march down the field. Wehr scored on his third one-yard TD run of the night. Toby Bishop added his final PAT of the night for the final 36-32 score.
The LG quarterback, Josh Schneider, had his last throw of the night fall incomplete in the Giddings end zone as time expired.
The two teams were evenly matched as Giddings amassed 366 yards total offense and LaGrange had 327 yards.
