From the Chef's Corner
It's football time and time to think of some good and different dishes to serve friends during the half or after the game. 
¾ cup shortening
1 ¾ cup sugar
3 eggs
2 ¼ cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp allspice
1 cup buttermilk
1 ½ cups chopped cooked prunes
1 ¼ cups chopped walnuts
2 tsps grated lemon rind
1 tsp vanilla
Powdered sugar
Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well. Beat in eggs.
Combine flour, soda, salt, and spices; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture; mix until ingredients are moistened. Stir in prunes, walnuts, lemon rind, and vanilla.
Pour batter into a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
