Eagle CC Boys 1st @ St. Joe's

by Mike Organ

The Eagle Cross Country team won the Bryan St. Joseph's invitational meet Monday. Jeff Pena and Aaron Berry led the way with second and fourth place overall finishes. This is the first team win for the Lexington boys this season. The Lady Eagles took third in team competition and Ashton Johnston finished eighth among 73 runners.

Coach Josh Munson said, "We saw some quality racing from both the girls and the guys. Jeff Pena set a blistering fast pace in the boys race and was barely edged out in the last 800m. We've seen tremendous improvement in Phillip Lindberg over the last 3 weeks, and that continued today as he ran #4 for us. Aaron Berry is also steadily rounding into the form that he is accustomed and Zane Kleinschmidt has been extremely consistent. As a team, we captured first place in a meet for the second time this year. The girls continued the downward trend in times. Over the past three weeks we have seen our times drop across the board. We need to consistently have girls running under 13:30. It will take a team effort to reach the lofty goals that we have set. Rachel Clark ran well for the second meet in a row, and Raquel Hernandez really helped out with a strong race."

Lexington's next meet is in Giddings on Thursday, October 15.
