38th Annual South Central Texas Cow-Calf Clinic

The 38th Annual South Central Texas Cow-Calf Clinic and Trade Show will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009, at the Washington County Fairgrounds Sales Facility in Brenham. Registration is $15 per person, and will be from 7:15 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. All area producers are encouraged to attend where they will receive information which will help them make sound management decisions in their beef cattle operations.

This year's clinic will focus on beef cattle herd health and nutrition. Speakers include: Dr. David Anderson, livestock market outlook; Dr. Jason Cleere, hot topics related to beef cattle production; Dr. Ron Gill, beef quality assurance, vaccinating, and evaluating live calves and demonstrations of proper chute side manners; Dr. Jason Banta, supplementation strategies for beef cattle; Dr. Larry Redmon, economics of forage production; and, Dr. Tom Hairgrove, beef cattle herd health.

The clinic will adjourn at 3:15 p.m. Private, commercial or non-commercial pesticide applicator license holders will receive two hours of continuing education; 1 general and 1 IPM. Producers certified under the Texas Beef Quality Producer Program will receive 2.5 credits.

There will be a trade show of commercial exhibits, equipment displays, Cattleman's Hay Show, refreshment breaks, BBQ lunch, social hour with calf fries, and much more. The results of the cattleman's hay show drawing will be announced after lunch.

The Bluebonnet Beef Breeder's Association will host their 8th annual Showcase Bull and Female Sale. This event begins at 3:45 p.m. in the Sales Facility offering 35 bulls and over 125 head of commercial females. Females will sell in groups of two to five, with a select group of approximately ten haltered heifers which will be eligible to show in most of the 2010 county shows in the area. Cattle will be available to view on Thursday evening, October 22, and all day prior to the sale on Friday, October 23. More information on the sale can be found at www.brokentrianglecattle.com.
