Lady Eagles Capture Cameron Cross Country Title

by Mike Organ

Lauren Johnston led the Lady Eagles to the championship of the Cameron Cross Country meet Monday afternoon. Sister Ashton Johnston, Hillary Salazar, Rachel Clark, and Lucero Martinez places were the ones used for the winning score.

The Eagle team finished second behind Providence in a good showing. Jason Armstrong led the Eagles with a sixth place overall finish.

Coach Josh Munson said of the Meet, "This was our best meet of the year on the girls side. It was a quick turnaround from our meet in Salado on Saturday, but we responded with excellent races. Once again Lauren led the girls and continues to look better and better each race. Ashton ran really well today and Hillary did a great job on short notice. Lucero continues to impress as a freshman, and took home the "Anchor Man" award for the top #5 runner. The race of the day goes to Rachel Clark, who really stepped up this week and ran like I knew she was capable of. This is our second team win of the year, and we hope that it is not our last. On the boys side we were a couple of points out of first. I hope we learned how important every single place is! Jason, Zane, and Landon ran excellent races today, and Vaughn looked strong coming back from illness. John Turner ran as our number 5 runner today, and did a great job in his first race to score as a part of the team. We will slow down with the meets soon, and focus on our training in preparation for our district meet on October 26th."
