Lifelong Resident and Beloved Teacher Passes Away

Betty Jo Harrison Betty Jo Harrison Betty Jo Parker Harrison of Lexington passed away on Wednesday, September 30, at the age of 87.

Betty Jo was born in Lexington and lived most of her life there. She graduated from Lexington High School at the age of 16, before attending Baylor University. She graduated from Baylor with a degree in Education and Food Science, later returning to Baylor to get her special education certification. She taught 23 years in the Lexington School system, teaching first grade children for many years and also teaching special education.

She was married to the late John H. Harrison for 62 years and they had three daughters, Katharine and Joe Bricker of Lexington, Dianne and Bob Hawley of Abilene, and Rebecca and Richard Ellis of Dallas.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington, where she served throughout her life as a Sunday School teacher, Girls' Auxillary director, and faithful member until such time as she could no longer attend services.

A funeral service was held Saturday, October 3, at First Baptist church.
