Eagles to Host Academy

by Mike Organ

Lexington hosts the Academy Bumblebees Friday night. The Eagles are coming off a loss to Lago Vista to open District 25-AA action. Academy toasted Jarrell 41-7 in their district opener. Academy beat Lexington last year 21-15 amid a plethora of questionable calls by game officials. Lexington coaches thought the questionable calls cost the Eagles a trip to the 2008 playoffs.

Quarterback Kyle Kuban (6', 210 lbs.) starts the potent Academy offense. Running back Layton Willis and receiver Marshall Whorley (6'4", 190 lbs.) will provide excellent offensive side-kicks for Kuban. The Bees have some other beef also in tight end Dillion Gilmore (6'5", 240) and tackle Tyler Lisenbe (6'3". 240).

The Bees return 19 seniors from last season's 7-4 team that lost in the first round of the Division II playoffs to East Bernard 56-21. The Bees have used that experience to defeat the Copperas Cover JV, Granger, Clifton, and Jarrell in last week's opener. The Bees lost only to Austin St. Michaels during their homecoming 38-14.

Academy will provide Lexington with a tough opponent as the Eagles fight to overcome their first loss to Lago Vista in varsity football action.
