Lexington Sweeps Doubles
Two Lexington father/son combinations breezed through the 11 team field in Taylor last weekend to sweep the men's doubles division of the 38th Annual Taylor Tennis Tournament. Round Top State Bank sponsors this Central Texas event each year. Rick & Luke Spencer defeated Larry and L.J. Maxwell in the finals 6-3, 6-4. The teams were very even with only one service break each set. The Spencers never lost their serve in 10 service games.
Mackenzie Brown brought home 1st place in womens singles and doubles. She defeated a Taylor girl in the singles final 6-7, 6-3, (10-6) and another Taylor girl in the semifinals 6-1, 6-2. Brown teamed with Monee Michna beating a Thrall team 6-0, 6-0 in the 1st round and then a Taylor team 6-1, 6-3 in the finals.
The Spencers defeated a Taylor team 6-2, 6-1 in the 1st round then defeated Colton Christiansen and Dentyn Blasig of Giddings 6-1, 6- 2 before playing the Maxwells in the finals. The Maxwell's defeated a Thrall team in the 1st round 6-1, 7-5 and then a Taylor team 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinal.
L.J. advanced to the semis in men's singles defeating two Taylor players 7-6, 6-2 and 6-3, 7-5 respectively. He lost to the eventual champion Zach Wilkins in the next round 6-3, 6-3.
Larry defeated a Taylor player in the 1st round 6-1, 6-1 and then lost to another Taylor player 6-3, 1-6, (7-4).
Rick and Mackenzie won consolation in mixed doubles defeating a Taylor team 6-0, 6-2. They lost their 1st match to a Thrall team 6-4, 5-7 (10-8).
