Eagles Travel to Lago Vista

by Mike Organ

The Eagles travel to Lago Vista to open their quest for a 2009 district championship. The Vikings are 2-1 on the season with victories over Austin Regents and Thrall. The loss came to Bandera and their game with Bartlett was rained out in the big weather event two weeks ago.

The Vikings have some speed returning as they placed highly in the sprints in the district track meet in the spring. Sophomore Donald Hopkins gives them credibility at fullback. He is 6'2" and weighs 220 lbs. — quite a load for Lexington's smallish, but quick defense. The Vikings junior class is their most talented in school history, according to Coach Alan Haire. Dakota Haines and Daniel Parker lead that group onto the field.

Some predictors call Lago Vista the district dark horse, since they are coming off a 7-3 season with 22 lettermen returning. A lot of the returnees are only juniors, just like Lexington. This could be a real battle and strange things happen at the 'rock pile'.
