Eagles Host Rice

by Mike Organ

The Lexington Eagles host one of the top rated 2A teams in the state this week as Rice Consolidated comes to town. The Raiders are rated #7 in the state and #1 in Region IV. Rice has not won less than eight games in 10 years.

On the Rice staff is a Lexingtonex. Mark Pustejovsky has been coaching in Altair since leaving Lexington. Dean Schendl is also on the staff. Schendl is an ex- Lexington coach who served under Pustejovsky.

Eagle Coach Lyon Lofland was a Rice coach prior to coming to Lexington.

The Raiders have a lot of talent returning defensively. According to Coach Jason Holcomb, the Raiders have 10 two-year starters returning on defense. The twelfth starter is the safety who is the son of a coach Rice hired this season. Defensive tackle Chris Dorsey has verbally committed to Rice University. He wears #27 this year so he can play tight end on offense. Myles Dumont, Head Coach Brad Dumont's son, is the quarterback. The younger Dumont threw for 2,100 yards last season and produced 31 TD's. Wide receiver Mario Hull, #9, is the man Rice likes to throw the ball to in open space.

This could be the first of two games this season between these clubs. If Rice and Lexington make the playoffs, they could meet in the first round.
