Ervin Fritz Lerche
Funeral services for Ervin Lerche, 82 of Lexington, were held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington with Rev. Leif Hasskarl officiating. Burial followed in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Lexington.
Mr. Lerche passed away Saturday evening at his home in Lexington.
Ervin Fritz Lerche was born on October 20, 1926 in Lexington, Texas to Fritz & Emily (Siegmund) Lerche. He was baptized on November 14, 1926 and confirmed on October 16, 1955 both at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington. Mr. Lerche was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during WWII as an Amphibian Tank Crewman. He was united in marriage to Lorine Exner on May 1, 1948 in Lexington. He was employed for several years at Woodson Lumber Company in Lexington and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, making barbeque and taking care of his dogs and cows.
Mr. Lerche was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Kenneth Pelham; 2 brothers, Herbert Lerche Sr. and Walter Lerche and 2 sisters, Ella Bright and Elsie Summers.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorine Lerche of Lexington; his daughter, Shirley Diane Pelham of Lexington; his grandsons, Robert & Stephannie Pelham of Lexington and John Pelham of Austin; 4 great grandchildren, Kenneth Pelham, Emily Pelham and Ben Pelham all of Lexington and Ellie Pelham of Austin; brother, Ewald & Pat Lerche of Lexington; 2 sisters in-law, Frances Lerche and Glenda Clopton both of Lexington as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Brazos Valley Hospice or St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington.
