At Wednesday's City Council meeting it was pointed out that I was one of the "others" that wasn't born and raised in Lexington and didn't have any concern for our town. I take personal umbrage at this sentiment. It is true that I wasn't born and raised in Lexington. But, my family and I love Lexington; we chose to come here. I was encouraged to move to Bastrop or Giddings. But, my wife and I researched the area and decided that Lexington was the best place for our family to be.
We've embraced this community…not only do I serve as Councilman; I am also the Cubmaster for the Cub Scouts of Pack 142 charted out of First Baptist Church. My wife also volunteers with the Pack. We both teach at Holy Family Catholic Church. I also prepare the church bulletin and the bulletin for St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dime Box. I've coached in Lee County Little League for two years now. I have volunteered my time with the Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, I'm an active member of the Old Town Neighborhood Watch.
Lori Barnikow and I may be "others," but we both work very hard for Lexington. She and I have done everything asked of us by the Mayor, and have served on every committee we have been asked to serve on without hesitation. Every decision we make in our roles as Councilmembers is with the best interests of Lexington foremost in our minds.
Sincerely, Tony Tavary Councilman, City of Lexington
