Eagles Host Mart
The Lexington Eagles host the Mart Panthers in the 2009 home opener for the Eagles. Mart is a perennial state power that has dropped down to Class A but maintains a tremendous athletic program. The Panthers were 12-3 last season with one of those losses coming at the hands of the Eagles in their opening game on their brand new AstroPlay field which will lead to a revenge factor. The Panthers' season ended with a loss to Canadian in the Class A Division I championship game.
The Panthers return six offensive and four defensive starters from last season's finalists. They return 12 lettermen and 10 more reserves. The Panthers are trying to find a quarterback to replace last year's starter. They have experience in the offensive line returning. Size wise, the Panthers and Eagles will be about equal on the field. The Panthers also have an excellent kicking game that saw a long field goal against Lexington last season.
Coach Holcomb said, "If we can take care of the football and not give it away with fumbles and interceptions we will definitely have an excellent chance to win the game. I look for a tight game, with Mart looking for revenge for last season's defeat."
