LCRA Seeks Volunteers for New Regional Council
LCRA is taking applications through Sunday, Aug. 30, for 20 volunteer positions on a new regional council representing the diverse interests of the Bastrop/ Fayette county area. The council will include representatives from Bastrop and Fayette counties and parts of Caldwell, Lee and Washington counties.
The council will provide a twoway communication link between LCRA and communities in its service area on issues, projects and activities affecting the region. The council will consider a broad range of issues, including growth and the increasing demand for water, electricity, public safety and recreational space. Council members also will share information with community groups.
"To be successful, the LCRA Bastrop/Fayette Regional Council will require a high level of commitment by its members and LCRA staff," said LCRA Public Affairs Manager Gail Oliver. "We're excited about working with this new council to strengthen communication and improve understanding between LCRA and the communities it serves."
Members will serve a three-year term and attend at least six twohour meetings a year beginning in January 2010. Six other regional councils representing the upper and lower areas of the LCRA service area began serving in January 2009. Public interest led to the creation of the LCRA Bastrop/ Fayette Regional Council.
An LCRA committee will review the applications for membership to determine which applicants it will recommend for appointment by the LCRA Board of Directors. The committee will consider whether the applicant is well-informed about community needs, interests and viewpoints and willing to devote the time and energy it will take to attend all scheduled meetings and share information with the communities. LCRA also is looking for applicants who represent diverse interests, including property ownership, community leadership, business ownership, recreation, the environment and agriculture. The LCRA Board of Directors will appoint the council members, and all applicants will be notified after the appointments are made.
