Blinn's Fall Performance Features American Songs

The first performance of the fall at Blinn College's W.W. O'Donnell Performing Arts Center will feature a veteran cabaret performer and his actress/singer/songwriter daughter playing songs from some of the greatest American composers. "The Art of the American Song" on Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. will include selections by Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, and Rogers and Hammerstein among others.

Dick Smith will perform on keyoard with his daughter Ryan as the vocalist. Since retiring from advertising, Smith returned to his early roots performing in concert at Festival Hill in Round Top and other venues. Ryan has an extensive background in musical theater having performed in Jesus Christ Superstar, Peter Pan, The Sound of Music, Oliver and other productions. She is a graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York.
