Eagles Scrimmage with Caldwell

by Mike Organ

An interception was barely avoided as the Lexington quarterback fired one toward Titus Clark during Saturday's scrimmage against Caldwell. An interception was barely avoided as the Lexington quarterback fired one toward Titus Clark during Saturday's scrimmage against Caldwell. Lexington found some areas that need work in their scrimmage with Caldwell Saturday. Coach Jason Holcomb was pleased with some aspects of the new offense, others still need some fine tuning before the season starts in two weeks at Smithville.

Holcomb cited Brandon Meyer for a couple of good catches and runs after the catch (RAC). Clint Hutson made a nice catch in the back of the end zone for a score. He also caught a swing route out of the backfield and used his speed for a big gain.

Holcomb said, "Chase Sunvison and Taylor Roberson had good nights blocking." He also said, "Caldwell wore us down as the scrimmage progressed. They have about 40 players on their varsity. That is not an excuse we can use later in the season."

Defensively the Sherrill twins, Chace and Chance, played well at linebacker. Holcomb said, "They played over 100 plays in the scrimmage. Considering the heat and how early in the season it is, 100 is a large number. Sunvison and Roberson played well on defense also. Our defense showed some weaknesses that we will definitely work on this week in continuing to get ready for the season."

The Eagles will host Thorndale in their final scrimmage Friday night. The JV will start at 6:00 pm with the Varsity starting at approximately 7:00 pm.
