Demand prompts Blinn to Add Classes Including Fridays and Saturdays

Less than three weeks before the start of the fall semester, Blinn College in Bryan is adding classes to meet demand. Some of the additional classes will be on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings to accommodate students registering late in the summer.

This week, the Bryan campus added 70 sections and more than 2,200 seats in popular core curand riculum courses such as math, English, and science. With weekday and weeknight nearly full, and with space limited, the college opted to add 16 of the sections on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings, times not regularly used in previous academic years.

To accommodate increased enrollment, the college hired additional full-time instructors in Bryan continues to employ part-time instructors.

Last fall, the Bryan campus experienced an eight percent increase for a record enrollment of 11,366, which represented 72 percent of total Blinn enrollment. The number of contact hours increased by 9.3 percent resulting in an increase in state funding. Administrators predict another increase this term, but cannot yet determine how large it will be.

Fall classes start on Aug. 31. To enroll at Blinn College, students must submit an application, transcripts and test scores. Information about enrollment, registration and classes is available at www.blinn.edu.
