Sheriff 's Report

August 10, 2009

A caller reported an abandoned vehicle that was parked on CR 120. The vehicle had been burned. Deputy Crockett was dispatched to the scene and determined the vehicle had been reported stolen. Investigation continues.

August 10, 2009

Deputy Lapham met with a complainant who reported that several items were stolen from his residence. After taking the report Deputy Lapham met with a possible suspect and the stolen items were recovered.

A motorist reported a horse was running loose on CR 213 approximately 5 miles off FM 448. Deputy Robertson located the horse and put it up.

A caller reported a blue Chevrolet had been parked in front of the South Forty RV Park for approximately 3 days. Deputy Durrenberger responded and located the vehicle and advised dispatch that it was off the roadway.

Deputy Robertson, Deputy Durrenberger and Deputy Carvin responded to a residential burglar alarm. The house was found to be secure and the home owner was on site.

Giddings Police reported a reckless driver on Hwy 77 South at the Fayette County line. The vehicle was described as a two tone silver and blue Astro van that was failing to maintain a single lane. Deputy Durrenberger located the vehicle and followed it but did not observe any violations.

A resident requested a deputy on CR 410 because she thought someone was trying to take her screen off her window. Deputy Carvin and Deputy Durrenberger responded. The residence and the property were searched.

Deputy Crockett was dispatched to put up a calf that was out on Hwy 290 East near Bobby Lehmann Trucking.

Phillips & Luckey requested an escort for a funeral at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dime Box. Deputy Crockett assisted.

A caller reported to Sheriff Meyer that there were several donkeys on his property and they had been there several days already. The donkeys were picked up and taken to Giddings Livestock.

Deputy Crockett spoke to a complainant who advised he had asked two subjects to leave his house but they refused. Both parties were renters and the actual home owner would be arriving later that afternoon to settle the matter.

Chief Deputy Kothmann took a theft report from Newman Equipment on FM 141. The case is under investigation.

Several motorists reported that a truck was hauling unsecured bales of hay and they had fallen off and were blocking the eastbound lanes of traffic on Hwy 290 West. Deputy Durrenberger and Trooper Manner assisted with traffic control until the highway was clear of all debris.

A motorist reported a red Ford flat bed truck driving recklessly and speeding up and down CR 401. Deputy Easley was dispatched.

Deputy Easley put up two cows that were out on CR 401.

A motorist reported two black cows out on Hwy 290 near Hills. Deputy Carvin responded and put up the cows.

Deputy Carvin, Deputy Durrenberger and Deputy Easley searched for a vehicle that was driving down CR 118 at a high rate of speed and was spinning their tires. A close patrol of the road was placed and deputies will be checking it frequently.

Giddings Police requested a deputy check an alarm on E. Austin St. since all their units were unavailable. Deputy Easley was dispatched and advised the building was secure.

August 12, 2009

The Sheriff's Office received a call regarding cows out on FM 696 East near the county line. Deputy Lapham took the call and the cows were located and put up.

Deputy Easley searched for a dark blue or black four-door car that was on Hwy 290 West heading eastbound that was reportedly swerving all over the roadway. The vehicle was located and the driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

A caller reported a suspicious red Chevrolet pickup parked on FM 141 at an oil field entrance. Deputy Crockett was dispatched and checked out the vehicle.

Deputy Crockett was dispatched to CR 309 to check the welfare and condition of several horses. Pictures were taken and the case is currently under investigation.

TXDOT reported several cows out on FM 1697 approximately ¼ mile from Nails Creek Bridge in Lexington. Deputy Lapham responded.

Deputy Lapham assisted with a large funeral escort from FM 2239 to Giddings.

A passing motorist reported two black cows out on CR 122 approximately ½ mile down from FM 141. Deputy Carvin was dispatched.

Deputy Easley and Deputy Durrenberger checked out a suspicious vehicle that was parked down by the creek on CR 124 near the Burleson County line. A game warden from Fayette County was called because someone was running dogs on government land.

A motorist reported cows out on FM 141 near Starvin' Marvin's. The caller stated that the fence was in poor shape and the cow will probably continue to get out. Deputy Lapham was advised and the owner was contacted and would be on her way from Houston.

The same caller who reported a blue Chevrolet car parked in front of the South 40 R.V. Park advised that the vehicle was still there after several days. Chief Deputy Kothmann spoke to a family member and advised them to move the vehicle.

Deputy York was dispatched to put up a red cow on Hwy 77 North at FM 1624. Upon arrival, he advised that the owner was out fixing the fence.

K&C Quick Stop reported that Burleson County dropped off a female subject in their parking lot. She needs a ride to Austin. Deputy Carvin gave a courtesy ride to a female and her cat to the Bastrop County line.

B&M ambulance was dispatched to the Lee County Jail after an inmate complained of severe chest pain and numbness in his arms and legs. Deputy Aderhold followed EMS to the hospital. The inmate was medically cleared and released back into custody.

Deputy Robertson was dispatched to Town & Country Mobile Home Park after the Sheriff 's Office received a complaint of loud music.

A motorist reported that he was rear-ended by another vehicle on FM 448. He advised that a man is hanging out of the other vehicle window looking at him strangely. He has a rifle under the seat and advised he would take it out if the other driver threatened him. Deputy Robertson, Deputy Easley and Deputy Aderhold were dispatched to the scene to stand by since a Trooper was dispatched from Burleson County.

August 15, 2009

A caller reported that a white male was causing problems and was intoxicated at the Wagon Stop. He advised that the white male was mad and left threatening to go get his .38. Deputy Carvin, Deputy Easley and Deputy Durrenberger located the subject on Hwy 21 East. The subject was arrested for D.W.I.

August 15, 2009

Deputy Easley was dispatched to a disturbance on FM 1697. Upon his arrival one of the parties involved had left the scene.

A motorist reported donkeys out on CR 327 located in between Hwy 21 and CR 329. Deputy York was dispatched.

A truck driver reported several cows out on FM 1697 at the Nails Creek Bridge. The cows continue to get out so Chief Deputy Kothmann had them picked up.

A caller requested a deputy drive by the softball field in Lincoln because there is a tournament and things were getting tense between the teams. Deputy York was dispatched.

A motorist reported that a juvenile approximately 12 years old was lying on the eastbound side of Hwy 290 West under a tree. Deputy York searched both sides of the highway but did not locate anyone. Bastrop County was notified also.

August 15, 2009

Passing motorists reported five head of cattle out on CR 216 just before CR 217. Deputy Durrenberger responded and advised the cows ran back into the pasture at 1464 CR 216.

August 16, 2009

Chief Deputy Kothmann was dispatched to Bowers Ave. in Dime Box after a resident requested assistance. She advised her husband had fallen but was not injured and she needed help getting him up.

August 16, 2009

A caller spoke to Deputy York and reported that her neighbor's cows were on her property again.

August 16, 2009 A complainant on CR 122 reported that he is missing approximately 20 cows from his place. The cows have been missing for 1-2 weeks. Chief Deputy Kothmann is investigating the case.

With the start of schools in the county, Law Enforcement would like to encourage everyone to use extra caution for the additional traffic around the schools. We also would like drivers to watch for school buses that are stopped on the highway to receive or discharge students.

I wish the students a safe and successful 2009-2010 school year.
