Meet Coach Mark Grimes

by Mike Organ

Coach Mark Grimes is a disabled military veteran who is in his second year of coaching. He coached in Natalia last year in his first year of coaching. He was in the military for nine years and used the GI Bill to get his degree from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. He received his disability serving in peacetime Korea. Enough said.

He also graduated from Mobile, Alabama High School. He has traveled all around the world, growing up as a child of a career military father. He said, "I have seen and touched the Berlin Wall, been to Paris, London, the Middle East, Korea, Japan, and many other places that are in the news. These travels have prepared me to teach World History and Government."

Coach Grimes' daughter, Jessica, will be an eighth-grader in Lexington Middle School this fall. She is quite vivacious and his constant companion.

Coach Grimes' philosophy of coaching is: "You reap what you sow. If you give your all, you will get your best performance each game."

The Lexington Eagles held 2-a-day practices last week, finishing Friday morning with a "contact" scrimmage. These pictures show some of that action, which will be used by the coaches to determine positions for many of the participants. The Eagles have been ranked second in District competition by some polls. They will have their first scrimmage against Caldwell this Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m. PHOTO BY MIKE ORGAN.
