Sandra Kay Furry

Sandra Kay Sheffield Furry was born on December 9, 1947 in Kermit, Texas, to Willie (Bill) and Dorothy (Spears) Sheffield. She was united in marriage to Donald Furry on August 4, 1967 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Monahans, Texas. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Michael Don of Giddings and Julie Kay of Austin.

The Furry's lived in Monahans, Texas until January 1985 at which time they moved to Giddings and were the owners and operators of Commercial Electric from 1975 thru 2001. At that time, they retired and continued the family business with their son Mike. They moved to ColoVista Country Club in 2002 and continued with their retirement. They enjoyed traveling around the country in their bus and on their Harley and made many friends across the U.S. and Canada.

Sandra passed away Monday, August 10, 2009 at the Christopher House in Austin, Texas, after a thirteen year battle with cancer.

Sandra is survived by her husband Don of 42 years; her son and her daughter-in-law, Mike and Glenda Furry of Giddings; her daughter, Julie Furry of Austin; four grandchildren, Tanna and Bodie Furry of Giddings, Robert (Dee) and Gavin Young and their parents Robert (Bob) and Pam Young of Brenham, Texas; nephew B.J. and his wife, Lisa Byrum of Dallas; mother-in-law, Bertha Furry of Blanket, Texas; two aunts, Peggy Massey of Midland, Texas and Jean and Bob Slaughter of Kermit, Texas along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Dorothy Sheffield; her sister, Iola Byrum and her father-in-law, Wayne Furry.

Funeral Services for Sandra Furry, 61, of Bastrop, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Smithville, Texas with Brother Michael Murphy officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Giddings City Cemetery at approximately 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
