James Edward Becker

June 8, 1950 - July 30, 2009

James Edward Becker was called to rest by our Lord and passed peacefully at his home in Smithville, Texas on July 20, 2009 at the age of 59. He was born to Rubin and Ruth Becker in Serbin, Texas on June 8, 1950.

James was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Serbin where he was baptized, confirmed, and attended school. He graduated from high school in Giddings, Texas. He married his wife Darlene on November 6, 1971 and they lived most of their lives in Smithville. He transferred to Grace Lutheran Church of Smithville, where he was an elder of the church and a member of the LLL.

For over 24 years James was a member of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department where he had many friends that were like family. He was fun loving and always lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping at the lake any chance he got.

He was an iron worker building power plants for HB Zachary for 15 years, then for Flour Daniel Corporation where he worked on the boilers in the power plants.

He took great pleasure in doing things for others and for anyone that needed him. He was loved and will be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Larry Miertschin. He is survived by a loving family; wife, Darlene, sons, Darrell and Kerry and his wife Chrissy, brothers, Wayne Becker of Round Rock, Glenn Becker of Victoria, and sisters, Frances Miertschin of Giddings, Marilyn Miertschin of Serbin, Elaine Boettcher of Lexington, Gladys Mathena of Houston and their spouses, along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Grace Lutheran Church on August 2, 2009. Pallbearers were Craig Boettcher, Shannon Miertschin, Cameron Becker, Clyde Votaw, Arthur Hunter, Jr., Jimmy Duty, Jr., and Christopher Miertschin.

The Smithville Volunteer Fire Department served as honorary pallbearers.
