Coach Jason Holcomb welcomed about 70 aspiring athletes to the 2009 Lexington Eagle football program. After some meetings, and a speech outlining what is expected of the young men, the Eagles hit the field for some conditioning and drills. Coach Holcomb said, "The overall attitude of the kids is great." During the drill phase of the workout Eagle coaches outlined skills that will be needed for the new updated offense that is being installed. The Eagles continued learning the offense that had been partially installed in the spring. Because of the athletes' work ethic and attitude, the Eagles are way ahead of where they should be at this point in fall practice. Holcomb said, "There are position battles going on at several positions. The players have only been in full pads one day. After this week, the positions will start defining themselves due to the athletes' skills and effort." The Eagles will practice Monday through Thursday. Friday night will be picture night at 5:00 p.m. At 6 p.m. the annual "Meet the Eagles Night" will be held in the high school cafeteria. The Lexington Athletic Association will be serving a spaghetti supper for $5 per plate to parents and fans. The meal will be free for the athletes and cheerleaders. Saturday morning the Eagles will travel to Caldwell for a scrimmage. The JV scrimmage will start at about 9 a.m. and the Varsity will take the field about 10:15 a.m. STORY AND PICTURE BY MIKE ORGAN.
