LOCALS COMPETE IN ROCKDALE TENNIS TOURNEY

McKenzie Brown and Eriq Mitchell bring home the Gold In Mixed Doubles, both incoming freshmen at Lexington High School. McKenzie Brown and Eriq Mitchell bring home the Gold In Mixed Doubles, both incoming freshmen at Lexington High School. Eriq Mitchell and McKenzie Brown placed 1st in the 14 mixed doubles competition defeating a Taylor team in the 1st round and a Rockdale team in the finals. Eriq also won consolation in the 14 singles division. Walt Green had an excellent tournament advancing to the finals in boys 12 singles before falling to a Cameron netter. Walt also teamed with Brett Cutts in boys 12 doubles placing 2nd. Brett was third in the singles event. Vance Kasner and Jacob Townsend placed 2nd in boys 12 doubles. Jacob also placed 2nd in 12 singles and Vance won consolation.

The highlight of the tournament was Coby Robertson (only a 2nd grader) and Blake Gibson (who had only been playing tennis a week) in boys 12 doubles. They took an early 4-1 lead on a tough Conroe team before losing 8-5. Also playing well for Lexington was Chase Allert in boys 12 singles.

In the Adult Division, Rick Spencer won the men's tournament singles championship defeating a Rockdale player in the 1st round then a Temple player in the finals. Father/Son combo Larry and L.J. Maxwell had a good tournament each winning and advancing to the quarterfinals in the singles bracket. Both lost in close tiebreaker matches in the 2nd round. In doubles, the Maxwells were ousted by a tough team from College Station.
