Dorothy Viola Kurio
Dorothy Viola Weiser Kurio was born on January 7, 1935 in Serbin, Texas to Karl & Clara (Urban) Weiser. She was united in marriage to Marvin Kurio on October 9, 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Dennis, Clifford, Joyce and Kathleen.
The Kurio's lived in Austin for many years where they were members of Hope Lutheran Church and Dorothy worked in the children's department at Dillard's for 17 years. After retirement, they moved back to Serbin where Dorothy worked at Pieratt's Hallmark which later became Blossoms & Bows Hallmark in Giddings.
She was an excellent seamstress and did work for Lady Bird Johnson and many others. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, fishing, cooking and baking. Dorothy also made flower arrangements and helped decorate for weddings and anniversaries.
Dorothy passed away early Saturday morning at her home in Serbin surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services for Dorothy Kurio, 74 of Serbin, Texas were held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edgar Weiser and two brother-in-laws, Wilbert Pietsch and Martin Fischer.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Marvin Kurio of Serbin; 4 children, Dennis & Betty Kurio of Austin, Cliff & Wanda Kurio of Austin, Joyce Jenke of Serbin and Kathleen & Jim Bob Bigon of Northrup; six grandchildren, Meghan Jenke of Serbin, Kyle Jenke of Serbin, Peyton Kurio of Austin, Shawn Bigon of Northrup, Stacy & Mike Calbreath of Georgia and Brian Westberry of Austin.
She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Miranda Westberry of Austin, Carissa Calbreath of Georgia and Anthony Calbreath of Georgia; two sisters, Irene Fischer of Giddings and Dolores Pietsch of Gatesville; brother, Alton & Paula Weiser of Giddings; sister-in-law, Laverne Weiser of Giddings as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
