Bertha Lee Hutson

February 7, 1908 - July 27, 2009

Bertha Lee Oppelt Hutson was born on February 7, 1908 in Beaukiss, Texas to Earl & Margaret (Schneider) Oppelt. She was united in marriage to Forrest Munson Hutson on July 5, 1925.

She was a loving and devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and mother-in-law who was an excellent seamstress and she loved to quilt and made many quilts for family and friends. She lived on the farm all of her life until she moved to Austin after her husband's death and was employed at the Austin State Hospital as a cook .

After her retirement, she moved back to Lexington to be closer to her family. She was a lifetime member of the Blue United Methodist Church where she played the piano and served as a Sunday School Teacher. Mrs. Hutson was able to celebrate her 100th birthday last year in Blue with many of her family and friends in attendance.

Mrs. Hutson passed away early Monday morning at St. Mark's Medical Center in La Grange.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters, Emma Oppelt, Annie Reynolds, Rosa Kilpatrick and Ida Cogans; two brothers, Hugo Oppelt and Walter Sullivan and a grandsonin law, Dixon Nuckols.

Mrs. Hutson is survived by her three sons, Rip & Evon Hutson, Harold & Ruth Hutson and Guy & Carolyn Hutson all of Lexington; nine grandchildren, Denyce & Spence Hollins of Rockdale, Debbie Nuckols of Austin, Judy & Larry Spitzenberger of Giddings, Judy Griffith of Austin, Deana & Dale Read of Leander, Rusty & Janice Hutson of Lexingotn, Nolan Hutson of Lexington, Darvin & Kim Hutson of Lexington and Lisa Chappell of Leander; 14 great grandchildren; seven great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Bertha Hutson, 101 of Lexington, Texas are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the Blue United Methodist Church in Blue, Texas with Rev. Linda O'Neill and Rev. Doug Springer officiating. Burial will follow in the Burns Cemetery in Blue. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Lexington, Texas.
