Seed Spitting Record Set at McDade Event

The 2009 McDade Watermelon Festival Seed Spitting Contest was one for the record books. Not only did they have a great turn out, but a new record was set for the spitting Championship. There were 48 contestants in four categories from ages 2 - adult. Here are the results:

Children ages 2-6: 1st Place-Peter Bacon from Paige with a distance of 9 ft, 3 ½ in; 2nd Place- Dusty Willis from Sabinal with a distance of 8 ft, 5 in; 3rd Place- Zephin Guidry from Pflugerville with a distance of 4 ft 11 ½ in

Juniors ages 7-12: 1st Place- John Komandosky from McDade spitting 18 ft., 4 ¾ in; 2nd Place- Emily Griffith from McDade spitting 18 ft, 1 ¾ in; 3rd Place-Isabella Lippke from Elgin spitting 16 ft, 7 ½ inches.

Teens ages 13-16: 1st Place- Christina Komandosky from McDade spitting 29 ft, ½ in; 2nd Place-Kaylie Komandosky from McDade spitting 24 ft, 10 ½ in; 3rd Place-Donovan Chandler from Elgin spitting 20 ft, 3 ½ in

Adults ages 17-up: The Gold Medal went to Brian Jones from Bastrop for spitting 40 ft, 9 ¾ in. The Silver Medal went to Brent Gattis from Bastrop for spitting 33 ft., 8 ¼ in. The Bronze Medal went to Steve Wilson from Elgin for spitting 30 ft., 11 in.

The seed spitting contest was sponsored by Dalgleish Construction Company of Austin. Festival organizers hope to see all the contestants and more out again next year.
