I hope the young Lexington Eagles do well in the state softball tourney in Early this week. I know the week will be trying for parents, but in the long run it will be time and money well spent.
Coaching school means the high school coaches will be ramping up for practice to start the 3rd of August. The coaches of today are smarter. They wear hats and sunscreen on the field to avoid skin cancer later in life due to exposure. It was not like that in the "good old days."
Volleyball practice starts the same day in an air conditioned gym. We would not want the young ladies to get too hot and pass out in a hot gym. The guys are outdoors practicing in 100 degree-plus heat where there is air circulating not dormant like in a gym.
New head volleyball coach, Tiffany Robertson, will find an improved team this fall. How much improved will depend on the overall team chemistry that can be so fragile in girl's sports.
There has been some movement by athletes during the summer break. Austin Bivins, who was being counted on at offensive and defensive tackle, has moved to south Texas with his family since dad took a coaching job there. A new coach has been hired to take his place. We will get him introduced next week.
