Tragedy Strikes Local Family
On Saturday July 11 at approximately 3:08 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff 's Office Dispatcher received a 911 call in reference to a 2 ½ yr old child that was found in the family swimming pool for an unknown length of time. The caller informed the dispatcher that the child was not breathing. Lexington E.M.S., B&M Ambulance service, Lexington VFD and Starflight was dispatched to the scene at 5631 F.M. 1624 to the home of Kenneth and Jeanne Campbell.
The Lee County Dispatcher gave instruction to the caller to start CPR, Lexington E.M.S. and B& M Ambulance service arrived and continued CPR until the child could be flown from the scene by Starflight helicopter to Dell Children's hospital in Austin. The child was pronounced dead on arrival. An autopsy will be conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiners office.
Investigation by Captain Gonzales revealed that Maysen Lynn Campbell, along with another sibling was staying with the grandparents. The grandfather was with Maysen out by the swimming pool, and Maysen had on floaties. The grandfather was cleaning out the pool so the grandchildren could go swimming. The grandfather looked over where the children were and noticed that Maysen was not there and figured that he had gone inside with his sibling. The grandfather continued working on cleaning out the pool for about 10 to 15 minutes, turned around and saw that Maysen was floating at the deeper end of the pool. The grandfather pulled Maysen out of the pool, had his wife call 911 and started to administer CPR.
Sherriff Rodney Meyer said, "The incident is still under investigation".
