Beef Recall Prompts Food Bank to Halt Distribution

On Sunday, June 30, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a massive expansion of the recall focused on questionable beef from a major global beef producer. Their announcement prompted the Capital Area Food Bank to halt distribution of the beef.

An E. coli contamination has the H-E-B grocery chain recalling beef products throughout Central Texas.

The Capital Area Food Bank receives thousands of pounds of donated beef from H-E-B and other local retailers, and is voluntarily halting distribution of all beef products until further notice.

"Food safety is absolutely paramount to our operation," said David Davenport, CAFB President & CEO. "The health and safety of the more than 300,000 Central Texans relying on emergency food from us is behind this decision."

The 350 Partner Agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other non-profits) CAFB serves have been notified and asked to halt distributing beef products until further notice.
