The Longhorns almost won the national title in two games. They possibly could have, had the pitchers been able to throw strikes in the ninth inning of game one. Taylor Jungmann showed the same skill in the second game that he showed against Lexington when he struck out 19 of 21 outs in his first district game as a freshman playing for Rogers. Lexington did not have to face him last season because he played for Georgetown even though he is listed as being from Temple.
After being in New Orleans this weekend, the LSU faithful are ecstatic over winning the national title. Their fight song and alma mater are not very enthusing, just loud. Being from Texas, I tried to point out to them we lost the first game, they did not win. That reasoning did not go over very well with the rabid Tiger fans. I hope next year I can send them a CD of the Texas Fight Song, The Eyes of Texas, and Grandioso March.
The Astros are making a gentle move in the NL Central as other teams are cooling off. If the Astros get hot at the end of the season like they have the last few years, they could be in the playoffs.
The Rangers are going in a different direction. They got off to a great start and are now trying to get back to their winning ways. Their five-game lead in the AL West is gone but there is still hope.
Just four more weeks until football season.
