Brother and Sister Tracksters Keep Winning Ways

Brother and sister, Gregory and Whitney Willrich from Lexington, have been doing very well as members of the Lee County Express Track and Field Club. Recenlty , they competed in the Prime Time Rollers Track Meet held in Killeen on June 20th at Leo Buckley Stadium. Gregory placed 1st in the 400 Meter Dash & 2nd in the 800 Meter run, while his sister,Whitney, placed 1st in the Discus and 2nd in the Shotput.

Then, this past weekend, on Saturday, June 27, they competed in the District meet being hosted at Buffalo Stadium in Giddings. Gregory, along with other teammates, placed 1st in the 4x800 meter relay and also placed 3rd in the 4x400 meter relay. He then went on to place 5th in the 800 meter run.

Sister Whitney placed 1st in Discus and 2nd in Shotput during that District meet.

The next meet will be held July 16 - 18, 2009 for the National Qualifiers meet in Round Rock. During that competition, each of them will have to place at least 3rd in their respective events in order to go to the AAU National Junior Olympic Games, which will be held in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake University on August 3 - 8, 2009.

Gregory and Whitney are the children of Gregory and Hope Willrich of Lexington and the grandchildren of Mayor Robert and Gladys Willrich, also of Lexington.
