Shots Fired While Police Investigate

Last Saturday afternoon, June 27, 2009 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Officers Sherer, Bell and Cary with the Lexington Police Department, along with Deputies York and Lapham from the Lee County Sheriff's Department responded to the 100 block of Lonesome Trail in Lexington in reference to an individual who had reportedly taken too many prescription pills. According to the Sheriff's report, the sister of the man called 9-1-1 and reported that her brother had taken a bunch of pills and that he was also very intoxicated.

While law enforcement was inside the residence, they heard a single gunshot coming from the bedroom. Upon entering the room it was discovered the individual had accidentally discharged his weapon while taking it from the top of the night stand. He reportedly was attempting to put the gun in the drawer of the night stand.

Lexington EMS was dispatched to the residence to evaluate the individual. After a preliminary medical check of the individual, the family thought it best to transport the man to St. Marks Medical Center in La Grange. The individual was treated and released.
