Giddings Police Report

June 15, 2009

At approximately 1:11 a.m. Officer Ray received a call of an assault at the 1300 blk of N. Ellis. The victim stated that a known subject had assaulted her and had left the area. Statements were taken and charges are pending.

June 15, 2009

Around 1:28 p.m., Officer Connolly was dispatched to Roberts Car Care in reference to illegal dumping. Upon arrival Connolly spoke to the complainant who advised Connolly that over the weekend, someone had dumped numerous items in their dumpster next to their business. The complainant advised that the dumpster was so full, they could not put any of their trash inside it. Connolly observed a woman's dress, empty boxes, and animal feed bags. Connolly also observed a syringe lying on top of one of the feed bags. This case is under investigation at this time.

At approximately 1:37 a.m., Patsy Batla met officers at the Police Department to report someone had stolen her debit card. Batla stated that someone entered her vehicle on June 3, 2009 and stole a debit card, then withdrew money at an ATM and returned her card and placed it into her vehicle that same night.

At around 4:36 pm, Officer Connolly was dispatched to the All Star Convenience store in reference to a gas drive off. Connolly spoke to the store clerk who advised that a gold Chevy pick-up was at the pumps pumping gas and she thought that the truck was pulling back up to the store to pay, but the truck drove off without paying for the fuel. With partial information, this case is under investigation.

June 15, 2009

At approximately 5:50 p.m., Sgt. Anthony Ramirez conducted a traffic stop on a white 1995 Buick four door at the 600 blk of S. Navarro St for failure to signal when turning. The vehicle failed to signal when turning right onto S. Navarro St. from the 800 blk of W. Liberty St. Ramirez made contact with the driver identified as John Burnam, who stated that he was going to his girlfriend's house. Burnham gave Ramirez consent to search his vehicle. The officer located a beef jerky bag and he could observe a pack of zigzag rolling paper and marijuana seeds and stems. Ramirez opened the bag and detected an odor of marijuana. He located a clear baggie that contained a green leafy substance known to be marijuana. Burnham admitted the marijuana was his. Burnham was placed under arrest for Possession of Marijuana and transported to the Lee County Sheriff 's Department.

June 17, 2009

At approximately 9:58 a.m., Detective Corporal Lacey Carvin was dispatched to 759 S. Navarro in reference to criminal mischief. Upon arrival she met with Vernon Simpson, the reporting person, who advised that he had come to check on his son's residence and discovered that the mailbox had been damaged and an orange jelly like substance had been placed inside the mailbox. Vernon advised that his son, Mike Simpson, was working out of town and Vernon had contacted Mike to inform him of the damage. Photographs were taken of the mailbox. Case is active with a known identified suspect.

June 20, 2009

At approximately 1:59 p.m., Sgt Ramirez was dispatched to the Giddings Police Department in reference to found property. Upon arrival, Ramirez was informed that Randy Birnbaum located a credit card issued to Charles Goodson. The credit card was located at the 200 blk of E. Railroad while Birnbaum was mowing the grass. Ramirez contacted Trooper Thomas Goodson and informed that a credit card was located and it belonged to his dad. Goodson arrived at the Police Department a short time later and picked it up. Goodson advised he had cancelled the card.

June21, 2009

At approximately 10:01 p.m. Officer Griffin responded to the 200 blk of E. Richmond in reference to a physical disturbance call-forservice. After an investigation was completed, Emilio Delgado Barboza of Giddings was placed under arrest for Assault by Contact-Family Violence for assaulting a family member and transported to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

June 21, 2009

Officer Shepard was advised by dispatch of a reckless driver traveling southbound on N. Main St. Shepard located the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on N. Main and followed it to the intersection of Austin and Main. Once he observed a traffic violation, he initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at the 100 blk of N. Orange St. He met with the driver, Jose Hector Solorzano of Houston. Shepard detected the odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle and from his breath. Shepard then conducted testing to ensure Solorzano was good to drive. Field sobriety testing was done, and it was determined that Solorzano was intoxicated. He was subsequently arrested for DWI and transported to the Lee County Jail for booking.
