Giddings Police Report

June 8, 2009

At around 10:39 a.m., Officer Connolly was dispatched to the Police Department lobby in reference to a complainant who had lost his wallet on Saturday evening. The complainant advised Connolly that while at Dr. Jay's Bar, he had fallen asleep and when he awoke, he realized that his watch and wallet were missing. The complainant advised that he had sentimental items and around $145 inside the wallet.

June 8, 2009

While on routine patrol, at approximately 8:33 p.m., Officer Shane Ray stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 1000 block of W. Austin St. the driver was arrested for no driver's license and identifies as Canales Valentin.

June 9, 2009

While on routine patrol, at approximately 11:21 p.m., Officer Shane Ray responded to a disturbance at 223 S. Madison St. Upon arrival, Justin Navarro was arrested for assault class C Family Violence for kicking his child in the leg causing pain.

June 10, 2009

On Wednesday at approximately 10:56 a.m., Officer Joseph Harrison was dispatched to Whataburger located at 2050 E. Austin St. in reference to found property. Upon arrival, Harrison met with Stephanie Hart who had found a credit card in the restaurant. Harrison took the credit card and placed it into GPD's property room.

June 10, 2009

On Wednesday, at approximately 1:09 p.m., Officer Joseph Harrison was dispatched to the police department in reference to a theft that occurred on May 17, 2009. Upon arrival at 179 E. Industry, Harrison spoke with Don Bailey who advised that a woman bought items from his store and paid with a check. When Bailey went to cash the check, the check had been cancelled and no funds were available. The items taken are valued at $90. A driver's license number was written on the check and this case is under investigation.

June 10, 2009

On Wednesday, at approximately 7 p.m., Officer D.A. Griffin initiated a traffic stop on a white 1990 GMC Suburban SUV at the E. 290/Orange intersection westbound. The driver, Justin Lee Navarro of Giddings, was subsequently placed under arrest for driving while license invalid or suspended, transported to the Lee County Sheriff's Office to be booked and the vehicle was impounded.

June 11, 2009

On Thursday, at approximately 12:34 p.m., Officer Joseph Harrison received a call from dispatch in reference to a burglary of a motor vehicle that had occurred overnight in the 800 block of N. Titus. The complainant requested that the officer meet him at his place of business located at 1181 N. Williamson. Upon arrival at Country Care Plex, Harrison spoke with Jose Palomo who stated that his vehicle, a white Chevrolet Blazer, was broken into the night before at 881 N. Titus. Palomo stated that he parked his truck in the driveway last night and when he came outside this morning, he noticed that the key hole on the passenger door had been popped off, foam padding on the dash was missing and his Kenwood CD player was stolen. The CD player was worth about $180. Palomo stated that he did not know anyone who would do this. He did not know an approximate time which the burglary occurred.

June 11, 2009

On Thursday, at 6:42 p.m., Officer Spencer and Officer Griffin were dispatched to the AT&T store in reference to two subjects grabbing cell phones and running from the store. One of the suspects was apprehended by a witness. During a physical altercation with the witness, one suspect lost contents form her wallet. The witness then observed the subjects get into a vehicle which was being driven by a third person. A license plate number was obtained. The case is currently still under investigation.

June 12, 2009

On Friday, at approximately 12:22 a.m., Officer D. A. Griffin initiated a traffic stop on a green 1999 Isuzu Rodeo SUV while traveling in approximately the 1400 block of W. 290 westbound. The driver, Veronica Faye Reyes of Austin, was cited for driving while license invalid or suspended and released from the scene. The front passenger, Reginald Dewayne Hicks of Houston, was placed under arrest for possession of Marijuana, transported to the Lee County Sheriff 's Office and booked in and the vehicle was impounded.

On Friday, at approximately 3:27 p.m. Officer Joseph Harrison met with an Asset Protection Manager representative from Whataburger in the lobby of the police department in reference to a theft. The representative from Whataburger reported someone had stolen a large sum of money from the store and would conduct an internal investigation and requested the police department conduct an investigation of their own.

June 12, 2009

On Friday at approximately 7:27 p.m., while on routine patrol, Officer Shane Ray was dispatched to the 300 block of W. Richmond Street in reference to a subject in a vehicle taking photos of a child and adults. A vehicle was stopped with a male subject fitting the description of the suspect. The subject gave a false name when asked to identify himself. Suspect then gave his correct name and date of birth as John Porter. Porter was arrested for failure to identify class B and no driver's license, Class C. No photos were located.

June 12, 2009

On Friday at 8:19 p.m., Officer Spencer was dispatched to 819 E. Bryan St. James Perkins reported that between the hours of 2 - 3 a.m. someone had damaged the exterior of his residence by throwing eggs against the residence. A window on the east side of the residence was broken by an egg. The case is currently under investigation.

June 12, 2009

On Friday, while on routine patrol, Officer Shane Ray received a call of a reckless driver traveling westbound on E. Austin Street at the City limits. The vehicle was stopped by a state trooper. Ray made contact with the driver, identified as Larry Bolton, who admitted that there was marijuana in the car. A search of the car was conducted and several different types of prescription medications were found in the vehicle. Subject arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of dangerous drugs.

June 12, 2009

On Friday at 10:44 p.m., Officer Spencer was dispatched to the lobby of the GPD in reference to prior burglary of a vehicle. Candice Iselt reported that when she left her place of employment on June 11, 2009 at 10 p.m., she found that her wallet and other belongings had been stolen from her vehicle. The incident reportedly took place in the parking lot in the 100 block of N. Main. The case is currently under investigation. A driver's license check on Iselt revealed that she had an outstanding Felony Warrant for forgery from Lexington. The warrant was confirmed through Lee County Sheriff's Office an Iselt was transported to the jail without incident.

June 14, 2009

On Sunday, at approximately 11:51 a.m., Officer Joseph Harrison was advised by dispatch that Sherry Lewallen had turned in a lost credit card. Lewallen reported that someone had lost the credit card at a local garage sale.

June 14, 2009

On Sunday, at 6 p.m., Officer Spencer was dispatched to 420 N. Orange in reference to a prior theft report. C.A. Schulze reported that sometime between the hours of 6:30 p.m. on June 13, 2009 and 12:30 p.m. on June 14, 2009 an unknown person went into his coved carport and stole a bicycle. The bike is described as a red chopper style bicycle with a large rear wheel. The case is currently under investigation.

June 14, 2009

On Sunday at 9:55 p.m., Officer Shane Ray and Officer Spencer were dispatched to a reckless driver which was traveling southbound on Hwy 77 coming into Giddings. The caller further advised that the vehicle had turned onto Jaeger Street. Officer Ray went onto Jaeger and Spencer went to Independence and N. Williamson. The truck was located traveling south on N. Williamson approaching the intersection of W. Independence. Spencer made a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 500 block of W. Independence. The driver was identified as Wendel Kovar. During the stop, it was learned that Kovar had been consuming alcoholic beverages. He was unable to perform field sobriety tasks as they were demonstrated. Spencer arrested Kovar for Driving While Intoxicated (Class B Misd.) and he was transported to the Lee County Jail without incident. Officer Ray waited on scene for the wrecker to take possession of the vehicle.
