Lee County Farmers Eligible for FSA Emergency Loans

The Farm Service Agency (FSA) has established two emergency designations that affect farmers in the Lee County area.

Designation S2866 covers farmers in Lee, Bastrop, Caldwell, Gonzales, Lavaca and Fayette counties who have lost at least 30 percent of their production due to drought between January 1 and December 31, 2008. The deadline for applications for S2866 is January 19, 2010.

Emergency designation S2863 covers farmers in Caldwell, Lee, DeWitt, Fayette, Bastrop, Gonzales, Lavaca and Travis counties who have lost at least 30 percent of their production due to drought, above normal temperatures, and associated wildfires on or after January 1, 2009. The deadline for S2863 is December 28, 2009.

FSA Farm Loan Manager, Barbara L. Kelley, is urging famers who are interested in receiving an emergency loan to get their application into FSA as soon as possible.

She said, "We hope famers will get their applications in early rather than waiting until the deadline. The longer they wait, the more chance there is for long delays. If the applications come in early, we can avoid backlogs and speed up the process."

The FSA office is located in Gonzales, Texas. Call 830-672-7511 for more information.
