Lexington Athletes at State Meet
Titus Clark will Long Jump at 9:00 am Friday morning at the State Track and Field Meet. He will be followed by younger brother Julien in the High Jump at 10:00. Just as the High Jump gets going good, Courtney Jackson will throw the Discus at 10:30 am right next to the High Jump event. At 6:55 pm Clinton Hutson will try to outrun the field for a gold medal in the 110 Meter High Hurdles.
Titus Clark has jumped 22'11" earlier this season. He will be one of the favorites in the competition. Since he will participate only in the Long Jump he may jump out near 24'.
Julien Clark is in the most unpredictable event. High jumpers may jump 6'8" one week and then only clear 5'10" the next week. Clark has good spring and great concentration. Look for a medal from this event for Lexington.
Jackson will be competing in the discus event, the first Lady Eagle weight event at the state meet since 1997. Her throw of 124'6" at the Regional Meet broke her own school record and placed her in the top four in the state in 2A. With all the competitors having two additional weeks to practice, look for some outstanding throws from all platter tossers.
Hutson has the best time in the state in 2A. A good start and good form over the hurdles is a must at the state meet where all the hurdlers are close in ability. A hit hurdle or an inadvertent slap in the chest from a runner slightly ahead can cause a misstep that can be disastrous. Hutson should bag a gold medal for LHS , but nothing is certain.
