Lorene Irma Ihlo

Lorene Irma Ihlo was born on September 25, 1920 at Paint Creek in Bastrop County, Texas to Otto and Irma Voight Schulz. On December 15, 1946, she was married to Walter Ihlo in Paige, Texas.

Lorene and Walter lived in the country in Paige until 1950, then moved to Giddings to make their home for 59 years. Lorene spent most of her life as a housewife caring for their home and both her parents and her in-laws until their deaths. Lorene and Walter have been members of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings for 59 years. In 1978, Lorene began to work as the custodian for Martin Luther Lutheran Church and she and Walter continued to serve as custodians for 21 years until their retirement in 1999.

Lorene and Walter were both active lifetime members of the Giddings Sons of Hermann #54 and the Giddings VFW Post #4475.

Lorene and Walter enjoyed taking vacations with their nephew and niece, Milton and Linda Ihlo, and brother and sister-in law, Lawrence and Ernestine Schulz. They traveled to places like Washington state and Tennessee to visit friends and relatives. They also enjoyed taking many bus tours sponsored by the Sons of Hermann.

Mrs. Ihlo passed away Friday , May 29, 2009 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Walter Ihlo; parents, Otto and Irma Voight Schulz; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Ernestine Schulz. Brother Vernon Schulz

Mrs. Ihlo is survived by many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Willie Mae Schulz.

Funeral services for Lorene Irma Ihlo, 88, of Giddings were held on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Ed Schwanke officiating. Burial followed at Paint Creek Cemetery near Paige.

Pallbearers are Milton Ihlo, Wayne Skubiata, Johnny Herzig, Derek Schulz, Don Schulz, Roy Schulz. Honorary Pallbearers are Dale Schulz and Billy Baca.
