Burgess James Etzel
Burgess James "BJ" Etzel was born in Round Top, Texas March 14, 1938, the only son of Werner and Hattie (Graf) Etzel. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. He had 12 years perfect school attendance in the Round Top- Carmine Independent School District.
He married Frances Vernell Brade on November 12, 1960 and was blessed with four children.
He retired after 42 years of dedicated service to Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in January 2000; the last 12 years serving as the President of CWA Local 6222 in Houston.
He loved gardening, barbecuing and spending time with family and friends.
He passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.
Burgess was preceded in death by his father and mother.
He is survived by his wife; children, Burgess James Etzel Jr and wife Genie, Douglas Etzel, R A "Red" Etzel and wife Elizabeth, and Carol Jean Etzel and husband Usamah Zagaar; three grandchildren: Makenzie Hope Etzel, Dottie Faith Etzel and Adam U. Zagaar.
He is also survived by sisters Dottie Jean Etzel and Deloise & Eugene "Mack" McGill; and many nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral services were held on May 30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church and Hospice Brazos Valley.
