U10 Lee Co Angels Win CAYSA Cup Spring 2009 Tourney
The U10 Girls Lee County Angels soccer team participated in the Spring 2009 CAYSA Cup tournament in Pflugerville this past weekend and won first place. On Saturday, the Angels defeated the Round Rock Dragons with a score of 1-0 with Megan Rangel scoring an excellent goal with 30 seconds left in the game.
On Sunday, the Angels defeated Pflugerville Lightning with a score of 1-0 with Janay Wilson making the only goal. The Angels then played their third game defeating the Phantoms 1-0 with Shyler Mayfield scoring the winning goal assisted by a pass from Courtney Strain.
The Angels then qualified to play in the Semi-finals meeting the Round Rock Hotshots in which they defeated them by the score of 4-0. Scoring for the Angels were Megan Rangel 2, Janay Wilson, and Hannah Kipp.
The Angels advanced to the championship game against the Austin United Firebolts defeating them 3-1. Scoring for the Angels was Janay Wilson 2 and the other goal bounced off one of the defenders into the goal.
The entire team played an excellent tournament, especially the defense, in allowing only one goal the entire tournament. Heather Gallier played outstanding as goalkeeper blocking several shots including a penalty kick. The Angels ended their season undefeated with a record of 13 wins, 0 losses, and 3 ties.
