Mary Ethel Lawhon
Mary Ethel Huth Lawhon, 5th gereration Texan was born September 28, 1936 to Philip Nicholas Huth and Inez Carmen Schilling Huth.
Raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, she lived there until she moved to Bastrop to live with her widowed Grandmother, Ethel Dunbar Schilling.
She married John Thomas Lawhon of Cameron, Texas on June 11, 1966 and then moved to Austin, Texas where they lived until 1994 when they returned to Milam County.
An award winning cook and an accomplished artist, she was a long time member of the Austin Porcelain Art Club, the Cameron Porcelain Art Guild and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lt. Philip N. Huth and a sister, Agnes Huth.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years; a daughter and sonin law, Sara and Ian Muise of College Station; brother and sisterin law, Charles and Nancy Huth of Bastrop; niece Emily Huth and nephew J.C. Trevino; nieces Deanna Lawhon Gonzales, Betty Lawhon Hoelk and families; mother-in-law Mabel Lawhon of Minerva; Martha Friedericksen whom Mary regarded as a daughter and Martha's husband James and children Benjamin, Samantha, Melissa and Jacquelyn and many friends and family.
Her husband and daughter wish to thank her close friends, nurses and doctors for their unfailing support through her 3 year battle with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, if Mary ever did something for you, turn and do a similar thing for someone else. That will be the greatest honor you can give her.
Visitation Monday 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale with Msgr. Louis Wozniak and Deacon Gus Coelho officiating. Burial followed in the Minerva Cemetery.
