Michael Dean Joseph
Michael Dean Joseph, age 55, of Loebau, Texas, passed away on April 17, 2009 after a blessedly brief battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughter, Caitlyn; parents, Harold and Patricia Joseph; sisters, Kathy Hutchinson, Sharon Ball, Stephanie Jackson; and brother, Grant Joseph, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by brother, Scott Joseph and sister, Christine Garrett.
Michael lived his life on his own terms with a unique dignity and openness that automatically drew others to him. A Project Manager for Verizon Business, he traveled extensively, triggering the ever widening circle of friends and colleagues.
"Big Mike", as he was known in Loebau, was passionate about his beloved cows, little dog, Biddie, and his big, black Quarter horse, Chance. However, his heart belonged to his land and living the dream life he created with Maureen.
Many will remember Michael in his striped overalls, raggedy Tshirt, cowboy hat draped over his jug after three passes of rum poured over ice with a dash of Diet Coke, ready to take on the world's problems or discuss cattle prices while sitting in his corner chair at the Loebau Store. He also held a seat every Saturday at the director's meeting at the Wagon Stop. He thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and closeness of the small community.
The family is grateful for the loving care he received at Lone Star Oncology and Hospice Austin during his tough final days. Most of all, they wish to thank a true angel of nursing and adopted member of the family, Kathleen, for her wit and humor, honesty, and always getting it right on the first try. Her compassion had no boundaries.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd, at the Loebau Wagon Stop in Loebau at 2 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life. This celebration was his final wish and all who knew him are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Maureen Joseph in order to help defray funeral costs.
