Theola Dovey Dykes
Funeral services for Theola Dykes were held Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Giddings. Visitation will be at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home on Friday from noon until 9 p.m. with the family being present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in Bay City.
Theola Dykes celebrated life for 96 years. She was born February 9, 1913 in Crosby, Texas to Will and Lovella Dudley. After graduation from Reagan High School in 1932, she married the elegant "Jimmy" Shelton Dykes, beginning 53 years of a wonderful marriage. Theola leaves behind one son, Donald Dykes, a daughter, Carol Kay, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Theola was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her husband, Jimmy Dykes, her son, Jimmy Ray Dykes and her granddaughter, Michelle Dykes.
Theola was a life long Presbyterian, as a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bay City for over 40 years and then FPC, Giddings on her move to Giddings in 1997. She was very active in her church work, teaching Sunday School and Bible Study classes. She was also a volunteer for 17 years in the beauty salon at Bay Villa Nursing Home. For 15 years she was the office manager for Dr. Russell Mathis, running the close knit dental group.
